While standing on same footings– Badal Dal accuses congress for protecting killers of Sikhs

December 1, 2013 | By

New Delhi, India (December 01, 2013): Its’ a konwn fact that the Congress Party did not only ‘sheltered’ or ‘protected’ the accused of Sikh Genocide 1984 rather rewarded them with high power political seats. Congress has protected Sajjan Kumar, Jagdish Tytler, Kamal Nath and others from any possible scratch due to their involvement in perpetration of Sikh genocide 1984.

Badal Dal or the Shiromani Akali Dal Badal pretends, from time to time – especially during the election times, to show sympathy with the Sikh victims by accusing Congress party for being “anti-Sikh” and for indulging in protection of accused of the anti-Sikh violence of November 1984.

As per certain media reports Sukhbir Badal, president of the Badal Dal, recently slammed Congress for “sheltering” the culprits of the anti-Sikh violence and said that “no justice can be expected from the party.”

Badal, while urging the public in general and the Sikhs in particular of Hari Nagar (Delhi) to vote for the Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP candidate, Shyam Sharma, said his party and BJP are “natural allies”. In his address, he also targeted sitting MLA Harsharan Singh Balli and called him an “opportunist” for for shifting to Congress “just for an electoral ticket.”

Raising a scathing attack on the Congress-led UPA government, Badal said Congress instead of punishing the guilty of the anti-Sikh violance of 1984, rewarded them with plum posts and ministership.

“Thousands of Sikhs were killed, discriminated and insulted, but not one single person has been held responsible. Instead, Congress rewarded people like Sajjan Kumar, Jagdish Tytler and H K L Bhagat and gave them tickets to contest elections. We can’t expect justice from them”.

But, if one talk about ‘sheltering’ or ‘protecting’ the killers of the Sikhs, the Congress Party and the Badal Dal or Shiromani Akali Dal Badal stands on equal footings.

Its an acknowledged fact that the Badal Dal led by Parkash Singh Badal and his son Sukhbir Badal has protected many Punjab police officers whose involvement in fake encounters, extra-judicial killings, torture and enforced disappearances has been documented in various human rights reports and documents.

Punjab’s DGP Sumedh Saini is considered to be a blue-eyed boy of Parkash Singh Badal, who has been protected by Badal family against all possible proceedings for his alleged involvement in elimination of numerous Sikhs including the family members of Professor Devender Pal Singh Bhullar and Bhai Balwinder Singh Jatana.

Political sheltering of Izhar Alam by Parkash Singh Badal and his son Sukhbir Badal is not hidden from anyone. Izhar Alam is a former Punjab cop who formed an extra-legal private army of around 150 men which eliminated sympathizers and family members of Sikh militants, besides many others, during late-1980s and early 1990s. Existence of Izhar Alam’s army named “Alam Sena” and it’s involvements in extra-judicial killings of Sikhs finds mention in many US diplomatic cables leaked by Wikileaks.

Whereas Badal Dal has promoted Sumedh Saini to the post of Director General of Punjab Police, it has awarded political position of Chairman of Wakf Board and Punjab assembly ticket to Izhar Alam and his wife respectively.

The role of Badal Dal is no different from the Congress party so far as the protection of killers of the Sikhs is concerned.
