Chandigarh: Former Punjab Minister and senior leader of Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) Gurdev Singh Badal has passed away this morning at DMCH, Ludhiana.
A brief update on a Punjabi vernacular’s website states that Gurdev Singh Badal was hospitalised at DMCH, Ludhiana was he was not keeping well for some time.
As per media reports the Antim Sanskar would take place at 4.00 PM today (March, 28, 2017) at Rambagh cremation grounds in Faridkot.
A five-time MLA from the Panjgrain Assembly constituency of Faridkot, Gurdev Badal was known as a close aide of former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal.
Gurdev Singh contested first election in 1977 and continued to win the next Assembly elections in 1980 and 1985.
In 1992, Gurdev had boycotted the Assembly elections, alone with the SAD. In 1997 and 2002, he again won the Panjgrain seat.
He, however, lost in 2007, for the first time to Congress candidate Joginder Singh.
Gurdev Singh Badal’s son Suba Singh Badal was given Badal ticket for Jaito Assembly constituency for Punjab Assembly elections 2017 in which he lasted at third place.
