Chandigarh/ Madhya Pradesh: As per media reports, an official of the Bank Note Press of RBI at Dewas in Madhya Pradesh is caught stealing currency notes worth Rs 90 lakh from the Press.
The nabbed official Manohar Verma, Deputy Control Officer, was posted at the Note Verification Section of Bank Note Press and was caught by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on Friday (January 19).
The CISF duty personnel deployed at NVF noticed that Verma was hiding some item discreetly in one of the empty wooden boxes lying in the corridor. On suspicion, the CISF personnel kept him under observation and informed the matter to their superiors who rushed to the spot, a CISF spokesperson said.
Verma was physically searched following which two bundles of currency notes in the denomination of Rs 200 were recovered concealed inside his shoes. Thereafter, a thorough search at his office was also carried out by CISF in the presence of senior officers of BNP, Dewas.
During search of table drawers, bundles of currency notes in the denomination of Rs 500 and Rs 200 (500 x 4,743= 23,71,500 and 200 x 1,189 = 2,37,800) totalling Rs 26,09,300 were recovered, CISF spokesperson Hemendra Singh said in a statement.
Verma was in the Officer category and as per procedure in vogue, the clothes and shoes of officers are not removed during checking while going out of the premises of high security zone of Bank Note Press, Singh said.
The CISF handed over Verma along with seized currency notes to the police for further legal action.
Subsequently, the police registered a case against Verma. As part of investigation, the police searched his residence and recovered currency worth Rs 64.50 lakh.
