Fatehgarh Sahib: Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University’s Department of Punjabi organized a seminar dedicated to International Mother Tongue Day on the theme of “Role of Punjabi Academics in the Growth of Punjabi Language”.
Vice Chancellor of the University, Dr. Sukhdarshan Singh Khehra presided over the inaugural session of the seminar while former Dean Academic Affairs of Punjabi University, Patiala Dr. Jaswinder Singh was invited as the guest speaker.
While addressing the gathering of students and academicians, Dr. Jaswinder Singh said that mother tongue is not merely a medium of communication but it is also a repository of cultural values, identity and dreams. He added that each one of us should take responsibility for the preservation and promotion of Punjabi language. Vice Chancellor of the University, Dr. Sukhdarshan Singh Khehra praised the efforts of the department and said that the University is committed to the cause of promotion and preservation of Punjabi language.
Earlier, in the session, Dean Languages of the University, Dr. Swaraj Raj welcomed the dignitaries while In-charge of Punjabi Department Dr. Sikander Singh threw light on the theme of the seminar.
The inaugural session also saw the releases of the two separate books penned by Dr. Sikander Singh and Dr. Harpreet Kaur, Assistant Professor, Department of Punjabi. At the end of the inaugural session, Registrar of the University, Dr. Pritpal Singh presented the vote of thanks.
A separate technical session was chaired by Dr. Surjeet Singh from Punjabi University Patiala in which faculty members and researcher scholars from the Department of Punjabi, Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University presented their research papers.
