Amritsar: While demanding total withdrawal of movie ‘Nanak Shah Fakir,’ Dal Khalsa and its youth body ‘Sikh Youth of Punjab’ has alleged that the film, which is produced by Harinder Singh Sikka, has the evil potential to challenge and subvert the fundamental belief system of Sikhs.
Taking exception over the Supreme Court clearing film for release on April 13, the Sikh organization said the judiciary has shown indifference towards Sikh sensibilities and religious feelings.
Activists of Dal Khalsa and SYP Paramjit Singh Tanda and Paramjit Singh Mand respectively today protested against the film at Baba Bakala and objected on portraying Sikhs’ first master Guru Nanak Ji and his family members in graphics and human form respectively.
“Whether through computer graphics or light or human form, the producer is striking at the roots of our faith and that is simply intolerable,” said party head H S Cheema. Issuing stern warning to Sikka to desist from behaving like Salman Rushdie, he said “I hope you do not want to spend the rest of your life guarded by the security personal”.
Appreciating Punjab government’s gesture in banning the movie in the state, the Dal Khalsa leader said we would not rest until the producer withdraws the film. He urged the Kejriwal led Delhi government to follow the Punjab decision and ban the movie in the capital.
After holding protest rally, Paramjit Singh pointed out that Sikh tenets categorically, unambiguously and unmistakably prohibit the human portrayal of Sikh Gurus and their immediate family members in any form.
Stating that the movie is nothing short of blasphemy,” Mand said Sikka is working on taking the entire Sikh community down through his movie.
Both the youth leaders slammed the SGPC for its flip flop position on this issue. SGPC is in total disarray. In total violation of Sikh principles, the SGPC on the instructions of Badal couple gave the film producer go-ahead to release the film. Now, under pressure from Sikh Sangat, the SGPC has withdrawn its so-called approval.
