New York, NY: United Shades of America with W. Kamau Bell will air the groundbreaking episode exclusively featuring the Sikh American community on Sunday, May 6th at 10 pm EST/PST, the Sikh Coalition said in a statement issued on May 02.
“The values that are intrinsic to the Sikh religion are the same values that many Americans believe are intrinsic in America,” said W. Kamau Bell. “We would be much closer to the America we hear patriots and politicians talking about if we learned from our Sikh citizens.”
“Thanks to work by Sikh Coalition co-founder Harpreet Singh and Revolutionary Love co-founder Valarie Kaur, the Sikh Coalition spent six months supporting United Shades of America producers with interview sources, background resource material, and B-roll footage. Since then, the Sikh Coalition has been working to support CNN, interfaith partners and the Sikh community to promote the episode in an effort to maximize community impact”, a statement issued by the Sikh Coalition reads.
“It is fantastic to see the excitement and support coming from all across the country as we celebrate this important Sikh awareness moment,” said Sikh Coalition Executive Director, Satjeet Kaur. “This episode is the collective work of many Sikh community members as we continue to make strides together in educating the American public.”
On Wednesday, May 2nd at 3pm EST, the Sikh Coalition will join the Religion Newswriters Association for a #SikhsOnTV Twitter Town Hall featuring Sikh interview participants and religion newswriters for a conversation about raising Sikh awareness through the U.S. media. On Thursday, May 3rd, W. Kamau Bell will be joining the Sikh Coalition for a Facebook Live interview beginning at 5pm EST.
