Chandigarh: Bholath MLA and sacked Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Punjab Vidhan Sabha Sukhpal Singh Khaira has raised serious questions over the procedure adopted by the Aam Aadmi Party for his removal. In a brief statement, Sukhpal Singh Khaira said that Arvind Kejriwal had sent a letter regarding his removal as LoP to Punjab Vidhan Sabha speaker even before taking consent of AAP Punjab MLAs.
“Its very unfortunate that a hard copy of Kejriwal letter appointing a new LoP reached the Speaker Punjab office around 12 noon on 26th July meaning the person carrying it would have started from Delhi at 7 am that morning. But MLA’s were contacted on cell phones between 3-4 pm and asked to send approval on WhatsApp “, said Sukhpal Singh Khaira while adding that Master Baldev Singh (MLA Jaito) and he himself weren’t called at all.
“Is this the Swaraj model of Mr Arvind Kejriwal and his team?”, questioned Sukhpal Singh Khaira.
Criticising Arvind Kejriwal’s deputy Manish Sisodia, Sukhpal Singh Khaira said: [w]hen we MLAs met Mr Sisodia in Delhi after this he denied the charge that the letter reached Speaker office 12 noon or before taking the approval of MLA, but the confirmation by Mrs Shashi Prabha Secretary Vidhan Sabha exposes the blatant lie of a Dy CM level politician and that too to his MLA colleagues”.
“The actual fact is that the letter was signed by Mr Kejriwal on 25th or one day before removing me as LoP in a well planned conspiracy! Shame on these people promising to bring about accountability and transparency in politics”, added he.
It is notably that after his removal as LoP, Sukhpal Singh Khaira along with Kharar MLA Kanwar Sandhu and few other MLAs of Aam Aadmi Party has raised rebellion flag against the central leadership of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and held a “volunteers’ convention” in Bathinda where they declared “autonomy” for the state unit of AAP. The rebel group has recently named Sukhpal Singh Khaira as president of the state unit of the party.
