SAS Nagar/Mohali: The National Investigation Agency of India (NIA) today secured six days police remand of Sikh political prisoner Ramandeep Singh Bagga. He was brought to the special NIA court of Mohali from District jail Ropar.
NIA had sought seven days police remand of Ramandeep Singh Bagga in a case related to Shiv Sena activist Amit Arora (RC/24/DLI/17).
The remand plea was opposed by the defence but the judge granted six days police and fixed 4 September 2018.
It is notable that Amit Arora had claimed that a bullet had grazed his neck on February 4 and two motorcycle-borne men had opened fire at him. Punjab after investigation Punjab police had claimed that the Shiv Sena leader had ‘orchestrated’ an attack on himself. The Ludhiana police had claimed that forensic probe did not prove the attack. As per police, Arora had injured himself with a piece of sariya (iron) and was arrested. He was booked for furnishing false information and cheating. Police had claimed that he orchestrated the attack to get security, escort vehicle and gunmen.
But after the arrest of British citizen Jagtar Singh Johal and others, the Punjab police backtracked from its earlier probe and started maintaining that Amit Arora was attacked. The Punjab government had transferred this case to the NIA in November 2017. But the NIA did not proceed in this case during last 9 months.
Medical Examination and Legal Meeting Pleas Allowed:
Defence counsel Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur told Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) that the NIA court allowed the request for a regular medical checkup of Ramandeep Singh Bagga, directing NIA to get him medically examined on daily basis.
The court also directed the NIA to allow the defence counsel to meet Ramandeep Singh Bagga daily. The NIA is expected to keep Ramandeep Singh Bagga at CIA staff Ludhiana.
