Amritsar: Dal Khalsa today castigated the Punjab government for giving ample opportunity to cops guilty of Behbal Kalan firing to get judicial relief.
Referring to the High Court orders staying the proceedings against three former police officers ( Charanjit Singh Sharma, Raghbir Singh Sandhu and Amarjit Singh Kalar) indicted on the recommendations of Justice Ranjit Singh Commission, the organization believes the state machinery deliberately delayed its action against them so that they could get reprieve from courts.
Party spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh said the impunity to police force is the long arm of the state of Punjab. The dilly-dallying tactics adopted by the present government to arrest these cops is an eye-opener for all stakeholders and people of Punjab who preposterously expect that Amarinder Singh would prosecute former CM PS Badal and ex-DGP S S Saini. “Punjab has witnessed many instances of police impunity, the latest one being the opportunity provided by the state government to the police to take the judicial route and save their skin”.
Like its predecessor, the Congress government too was dealing with tainted cops with velvet gloves. “Justice has become the causality”, said Kanwar Pal Singh after presiding over the meeting of the office bearers of Majha zone of the party.
Referring to the recently constituted SIT, Dal Khalsa men are highly skeptical whether the police officials will act against their own senior colleagues or like many incidents of the past, this SIT too will turn out to be a damp squib.
Given the manner in which guilty cops have been provided an escape route through judiciary, one can easily make out the fate of the recommendations of the SIT, said he.
Taking a jibe at legislators from Congress who showed brave faces during the debate in the assembly, he quoted famous saying “elephants have two sets of teeth -one to show and one to chew” to drive his point home.
He said the people were awakened and they would not allow the Amrinder government to adopt double standards- criticizing ilks of Badals and Saini in assembly and doing nothing in reality on the ground”.
Others present in the meeting include gen secretary Parmjit Singh Tanda, Kuldeep Singh, Dr Arpal Singh, SYP head Paramjeet Singh Mand.
