Chandigarh: The Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar (Mann) has criticised director Anurag Kashyap to wilfully hurt Sikh feelings in his controversial film Manmarziyaan. The movie starring Abhishek Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu has triggered controversy as the director has attempted to challenge the Sikh ethos and tenets through his movie, said SADA (Mann) media advisor Iqbal Singh Tiwana.
He maintained that the objectionable scenes in the movie showing a Sikh character disrespecting the Dastar and smoking were not an unintentional mistake rather it was part of considered policy of Anurag Kashyap to attack faiths under the grab of presenting modernity through his movie.
It is notable that Sikh groups, including the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) and Sikh Youth of Punjab (SYP), are opposing this movie.
Cinema halls in Hoshiarpur district of Punjab have already dropped the screening of the movie. The SYP, which lobbied with the managements of Cinema Halls in Hoshiarpur has urged other Sikh groups to raise their concerns with local Cinema managements and make them drop the screening of the movie.
