Chandigarh: The makers of an upcoming cartoon movie “Dastan-e-Miri Piri” have announced to release the film on November 2. The movie is an attempt to personify sixth Sikh Guru, Guru Hargobind ji despite established Sikh tenets against personification of Sikh Gurus.
On 7 October the makers of this cartoon film announced to release the film on November 2 and release a short trailer of the film on their Facebook page.
In Sikh faith personification of Sikh Guru Sahib, their families and great Gursikhs is not permissible. Sikh spiritual personalities and intellectuals, such as Bhai Veer Singh, Bhai Randhir Singh and Prof. Puran Singh explicitly rejected attempt to personify Guru Sahib in portraits.
But for past few decades there has been attempt on part of some cartoon film makers and businessmen to personify Guru Sahib in cartoon movies. First such movie was “Sahibzadey” that was released by Vismaad. Then it produced “Moola Khatri”. This trend hit its peak with commercial success of Chaar Sahibzaade. It was followed by another attempt by filmmaker Harinder Sikka who attempted to personify Guru Nanak Ji, Bhai Mardana Ji and Bebe Nanki Ji in his feature film ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’.
A section of aware Sikhs has been opposing these attempts ever since release of Sahibzadey. The erstwhile Sikh Students Federation (SSF) had raised serious concerns when cartoon film Sahibzadey and Moola Khatri was released.
The SSF had urged the then Akal Takht Jathedar to take notice of these movies and cautioned that this trend would result in violation of Sikh tenets and filmmakers will attempt to directly personify Guru Sahib in such movies.
MUST WATCH TALK WITH BHAI AJMER SINGH:
After the release of Chaar Sahibzaade cartoon film, the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) had talked to Sikh intellectual and political analyst Bhai Ajmer Singh who had citied established Sikh authorities while cautioning the Sikh panth from adopting the path of spiritual suicide by allowing attempts of personification of Sikh Gurus.
The awareness move resulted rejection of “Nanak Shah Fakir” movie by the global Sikh sangat.
Sikh netizens have started raising concerns about “Dastan-e-Miri-Piri” cartoon movie also.
