Amritsar/ Chandigarh: Breaking his silence over the controversy surrounding cartoon/animation movie Dastan-e-Miri-Piri, the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) appointed Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib Giani Harpeet Singh said on Sunday (May 26) that no clearance was given to the film by Akal Takht Sahib.
In a brief press note (copy available with Sikh Siyasat News) issued in Punjabi/Gurmukhi on Sunday (May 26) Giani Harpreet Singh said that the Chhadam Peer Productions Amritsar, that has produced ‘Punjabi Sikh religious film’ Dastan-e-Miri-Piri’ has been directed to seek clearance before releasing the movie. He said that after watching the title track of the movie a complaint reached the Akal Takht Sahib after which the producers have been directed to show the full movie to a sub-committee of the SGPC and seek its approval. He said that the makers have been directed not to release the movie without such an approval.
Promos and Title Track Aired In Violation of ‘Advise’:
Meanwhile a letter dated May 7, 2019 written by Giani Harpeet Singh’s personal assistant Ranjit Singh to Chhatham Peer Productions has surfaced over the social media.
The letter written on the letter head of Akal Takht Sahib had clearly told the film-makers that trailer of their film shows cartoon/animation of Guru Hargobind Ji, which was ‘not justified’.
The letter had informed the filmmakers that their case could not be sent to the review panel as they had not submitted the full film. They were also told the no clearance could be given without watching the full movie.
Talking to the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) Giani Harpreet Singh’s personal assistant Ranjit Singh confirmed authenticity of the letter.
When it was brought to his notice that the promo of the movie was being aired by the film-makers through different mediums, he was quick to clarify that it was without their (Giani Harpreet Singh’s) approval.
“We had told them everything in the letter but they went public with the promo without approval, now they are responsible for the fallout”, he said while adding that the matter was already sent to the SGPC for further action.

SGPC’s Expert Panel Member Inderjeet Singh Gogoani is Himself Involved in Production of Dastan-e-Miri-Piri:
It is pertinent to mention that the SGPC had formed a panel of ‘intellectuals and experts’ to review any film, song, drama etc about the Sikh religion or the Sikhs to ensure that they are not in violation of the Sikh ethos and principles. The panel included the name of Dr. Inderjeet Singh Gogoani.
But now it has come into light that Dr. Inderjeet Singh Gogoani is himself involved in production of ‘Dastan-e-Miri-Piri’ which violates Sikh ethos and principles by depicting Guru Hargobind Ji.
