455 nominations for 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab

Chandigarh/ Punjab (April 10, 2014): It is learnt that a total of 455 nominations have been filed for the state’s 13 seats. As many as 219 were filed on April 09, last day of filing the nominations.

Sunil Kumar Jakhar, Congress candidate from Ferozepur, and Vinod Khanna, BJP’s candidate from Gurdaspur, Harminder Singh Gill (Cong-Khadoor Sahib), Bhai Baldeep Singh (AAP-Khadoor Sahib) and Jyoti Mann (AAP-Jalandhar) also filed their nominations on April 09.

Supreet Singh Gulati, Additional CEO, said Bathinda topped the list with 48 nominations followed by Ludhiana (44), Amritsar (43), Faridkot (39), Patiala (38), Anandpur Sahib (37), Jalandhar (34), Sangrur and Khadoor Sahib (33 each), Ferozepur (31), Hoshiarpur (30), Gurdaspur (26) and Fatehgarh Sahib (19).

Among the top Congress contenders in the fray are former CM Capt Amarinder Singh (Amritsar), PPCC president Partap Bajwa (Gurdaspur), senior leader Ambika Soni (Anandpur Sahib) and Congress-PPP candidate Manpreet Badal (Bathinda). Among the BJP leaders in the fray are Arun Jaitley (Amritsar) and Vinod Khanna (Gurdaspur).

Among SAD’s top contestants are Harsimrat Badal (Bathinda) and Ranjit Brahmpura (Khadoor Sahib).

Polling for all 13 Lok Sabha seats of the state shall be held on April 30. For next couple days the nominees shall be allowed to withdraw their nominations.
