53 children fell ill, 6 serious, after eating mid-day meal in school on India’s independence day

Madhya Pradesh, India (August 15, 2014): According to media reports 53 children fell sick, six of them fell seriously ill, after eating food served on India’s Independence Day at a government-run primary school at Balapur in Sehore district of Madhya Pradesh on Agusut 15.

This is not any stand alone incident, as there have been previous incidents also where students fell seriously ill after eating government sponsored mid-day meal.

According to information in Balapur the children had gathered to take part in India’s Independence Day celebrations where they were given mid-day meal which consisted of puris.

After eating, many children started complaining of uneasiness.

The sick children were admitted to Ichhawar Civil Hopsital, while six of them, whose condition was serious, were sent to Sehore district hospital here.

Meanwhile, the district education department has cancelled the license of the NGO which supplied the food.
