Jalandhar, Punjab (August 31, 2014): During a state level meeting of Aam Aadmi Party here on Sunday, the party leadership has decided to provide legal aid to Vikram Kumar alias Babbi, who had hurled shoe at Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal at Issru on August 15.
While condemning the state government for linking the incident to Sangrur member of Parliament (MP) Bhagwant Mann, the AAP leaders blamed the Akali Dal for doing it to gain political mileage.
After holding a meeting with party workers and office bearers at the Desh Bhagat Yaadgar Hall, senior leaders of the party announced that they would organise the party’s structure in the state in view of the 2017 Punjab assembly elections.
During a press conference in evening, Sanjay Singh, party’s India level spokesman said that party had committed some mistakes during Talwandi Sabo and Patiala bypolls because of which it lost in spite of winning four Lok Sabha seats in Punjab.
Singh said that the meeting was part of developing strategies to create a strong base in the state. He claimed that party would soon correct its mistakes and put up a strong fight against both principal political parties – Badal Dal-BJP and the Congress.
He claimed that party would soon hold one of its biggest rallies in the state with an estimated gathering of a lakh people for which it had started identifying locations.
“This rally will show our political rivals the support enjoyed by AAP,” he added.
Singh said that Mann had been collectively appointed as the chairman of the state campaign committee of party during Sunday’s meeting. He also said that Mann would take up youths’ issues, particularly unemployment.
He added that Patiala MP Dr Dharmavira Gandhi would look after the party’s strategy for the health and education sector.
Newly-appointed AAP Punjab convener Sucha Singh Chotepur said he would visit each district in the state to organise the party’s structure.
