New Delhi, India (April 08, 2014): Arvind Kejriwal, leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was again attacked today in Delhi during a road show. He was also attacked few days back. Arvind Kejriwal has been denying any police protection citing his party’s agenda to end VIP culture.
According to media reports Arvind Kejriwal was today slapped by a man while he was campaigning in Delhi, making it the fifth attack on him in recent days.
The attack, which took place in Sultanpuri, left Arvind Kejriwal with a swollen left eye. The attacker, an autorickshaw driver, was roughed up by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supporters.
The attacker has been identified as 38-year-old Lali, a resident of Aman Vihar.
Lok Sabha elections are scheduled to be held in Delhi on April 10.
Soon after the attack, Kejriwal tweeted: “I am just thinking – why am I being repeatedly attacked? Who r the masterminds? What do they want? What do they achieve?”
He questioned whether violence was an answer to the country’s problems.
“Let them tell me (the) place and time. I will come there. Let them beat me as much as they want. But will that solve the problems?” he tweeted.
According to media reports in less than a month, Arvind Kejriwal has been targeted five times, including in Gujarat, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and more recently while campaigning in south Delhi’s Dakshinpuri area.
Arvind Kejriwal is facing wrath of supporters of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), a Hindutva fundamentalist party that claims to form next government in India under the proposed prime-ministership of Narendra Modi.
