According to news reported by YesPunjab.Com, Harinder Singh Khalsa, a former Indian diplomat who had resigned from his post in protest to Indian army’s attack on Darbar Sahib (Amritsar) in June 1984 took the decision at his first official meeting in the deputy commissioner’s complex at Fatehgarh Sahib.

He said he would visit his constituency once in a week to understand the problems of locals.

The Fatehgarh Sahib MP said he would give priority to the overall development of his constituency instead of developing roads and streets. Talking about Indian workers stranded in Iraq, Khalsa said it was learnt that instead of issuing political statements, the authorities concerned should handle the issue maturely.

Slammed the ruling SAD- BJP government on drug smuggling issue, Khalsa said the state government had failed to arrest smugglers or drug dealers who were operating business in the city.

He said neither the Congress nor the SAD-BJP government had pursued the CBI investigation into drug smuggling even when former DGP(jails) Shashi Kant had urged the government to hand over the matter to CBI agency.

Taking a dig at former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh, Khalsa said there was need to understand why Amarinder had not handed over the drug case to CBI as on one side he used to claim that Congress leaders were falsely implicated by Punjab Police while on the other hand, he had shown full faith in Punjab Police investigation in drug case.

He said similarly, Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal had been defending his brother-in-law Bikram Singh Majithia in the case since his name had cropped up in it.

Talking about the party’s strategy for panchayat and municipal council polls, he said the party would participate in all the elections to make stronghold at grass-root level. He said being an elected MP, he had been studying the problems prevailing in the constituency and after preparing blue prints, suggestions would be taken from the residents to solve the public woes.

Earlier in the day, Khalsa planted a tree in an administrative complex here and said tree plantation was the only way to reduce pollution so the government should also focus on tree plantation drive to make state pollution free.
