Aam Aadmi Party raised ‘forced conversions’, drug issue during Fatehgarh Sahib Shaheedi Sabha

December 28, 2014 | By

Fatehgarh Sahib: Forced conversions by Hindu fundamentalists, drug trade and summoning of Revenue Minister Bikram Majithia by the Enforcement Directorate were the main issues that dominated the first political conference of the Aam Aadmi Party at the Shaheedi Sabha at Fatehgarh Sahib.

Party’s Punjab convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur and senior leader HS Phoolka were the main speakers at ‘political conference’ held on second day of Shaheedi Sabha on December 27.

Aam Aadmi Party leaders said the Sikh Gurus and the Sahibzaadas sacrificed their lives to save other religions, but Hindu fundamental organisations such as Shiv Sena and Bajrang Dal were “attacking minorities and forcing them to convert to Hinduism”.

They alleged the Central and the state governments had become a mute spectator to such developments which was highly condemnable.

AAP leaders said the Sikh Gurus always cared for the masses, but in contrast the ruling Badals always cared for their kith and kin and never bothered about the plight of the common man.

AAP state convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur alleged the sale of drugs started in Punjab during the regime of Capt Amarinder Singh and flourished under the Badal government with Bikram Majithia at the forefront. He alleged PPCC chief Partap Singh Bajwa was also involved in the drug trade.

Bikram Majithia was involved not only in the synthetic drug trade worth Rs 6,000 crore but also responsible for destroying the lives of 60,000 youths of Punjab, the AAP leader alleged.

He said: “The summoning of Bikram Majithia is eyewash as he was called for questioning one year after his name surfaced in the drug smuggling case. He should be grilled in Mumbai instead of Punjab as he appeared before ED officials as a VIP along with his supporters.”

AAP leader Advocate Harvinder SIngh Phoolka lashed out at the BJP and the SAD for failing to set up an SIT announced by AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal to take up the 1984 riot cases. Party MPs Harvinder Singh Khalsa and Dr Dharamvira Gandhi also spoke on the occasion.
