Chandigarh: Ten elderly Sikhs, who were acquitted in a TADA case two days back, are expected to be released from various prisons today. They were convicted by a TADA court in Ludhiana on November 20, 2012 in 1987 Ludhiana Bank Robbery case and were sentenced to undergo 10 years imprisonment. But the Supreme Court of India set aside the trail court’s decision on January 10 acquitted these persons in this case.
Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur, who maintains list of Sikh political prisoners, told Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) that all paperwork related to release of these Sikh political prisoners is accomplished and they are expected to be release between 11 am to 12 noon on Thursday (January 12).
Of these 10 Sikhs- Bapu Assa Singh, aged over 96 years, is already on bail and his bail bonds stands discharged in wake of SCI verdict.
S. Maan Singh, aged 70, of Dholewal (Ludhaina) will be released from Central jail Ludhiana.
Harinder Singh, aged 57 will be released from Maximum Security Jail, Nabha.
Avtar Singh, aged 78; Mohan Singh, 74, of Pattar Kalan (Jalandhar); Saroop Singh, 68, of Bisrampur (Jalandhar); Balwinder Singh, 64, of Village Tahli (Jalandhar) will be released from Model Jail Kapurthala.
Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur added that Harbhajan Singh, 86, of Sharihn and Sewa Singh, 75, of Chak Raju Singh (Hoshiarpur) are already on parole. But they will surrender before the Model Jail Kapurthala authorities today. They will be released soon after the surrender in wake of the SCI verdict.
Similarly, Gurjant Singh, aged 74 who is also on parole would surrender before jail authorities in Maximum security jail, Nabha and he will be released permanently today in wake of the SCI verdict.
