“I would like to begin by condemning this horrible incident of gang-rape in the city of Mumbai. He said it’s ironic that the incident has happened after the anti-rape law has been passed in Parliament. The fact that it can happen with such impunity points to the fact that people do not have fear instilled in them even after the stringent clauses have been added to anti-rape law. This is very shocking, and the culprits should get the severest punishment possible”, he said.

As active citizens, we all must participate to find out solutions that are required to change the mindset that uses rape as a means of subjugation,” he said.

Taking a cue from the statement given by former DGP (Prisons) Shashi Kant in the Punjab and Haryana High Court that the alleged unholy nexus between top politicians, businessmen and the drug mafia was ruining the youth of Punjab, Ranvir Singh slammed the state as well as Central governments for maintaining their “criminal silence” to contain the drug menace.

Carrying Kesri flags and placards with messages written on it, hundreds of youth associated with SYP participated in the street show aimed to awaken the people against these social evils and urged the society at large to wake up to the occasion. The march started from Jandiala and culminated at Sansarpur (on the outskirts of Jalandhar city).

Drug menace has reached alarming position in Punjab. The future of girls and boys are in danger said SYP general secretary Manjit Singh while addressing the gathering.

Expressing deep concern over the rise of drug abuse, group’s organizing secretary Noblejeet Singh said “they believe at one level, it was a part of the design to engage the Punjabi youth in drugs as a weapon to check their political consciousness and to counter the fighting spirit in them.
