According to certain media reports Bollywood actor-producer Ajay Devgn recently organised a screening of the his upcoming Hindi film “Son of Sardar” for members of the Punjabi Cultural Heritage (PCH). It is notable that PCH is headed by a Congress MLC from Mulund Charan Singh Sapra.
“Confirming the news, Devgn said – ‘We are making this movie for the purpose of entertainment and not to hurt the sentiments of any community. When we were told that the Sikh community found some scenes objectionable, we decided to consider their point of view. After incorporating their feedback and explaining our point of view, we showed the film to the community members and they are happy with it’.”, reports PinkVilla.Com.
It is notable that many Sikh organization and individuals had raised strong objections against many contents of a promo of the movie that was officially released on YouTube few months back. A Chandigarh based human rights activist Advocate Navkiran Singh and AISSF president Karnail Singh Peermohammad had raised this matter with media, Akal Takhat and various film censorship authorities.
Later, Badal Dal and SGPC leaders along with Karnail Singh Peermohammad had held a meeting with Ajay Devgn at Amritsar that was followed by a press conference. Many Badal Dal and SGPC leaders including Punjab Cabinet minister Bikramjit Singh Majhitha were also present in this press conference in which Ajay Davgn had agreed to remove the objectionable contents from the movie.
Later on many Sikh organizations had filed criminal complaints aginst Ajay Devgn for not removing objectionable promo from the YouTube.
The movie is scheduled to be released on November 13, 2012. It is yet to be seen that if Ajay Devgn would hold more such screenings for those in Punjab who had objected against his upcoming film.
