New Delhi:  India’s human rights organisation known as National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) here on Wednesday has sought the clarification from the Punjab government on a tweet by CM Amarinder Singh in which he claimed that he had arranged the arrest of 21 Sikh militants on the suggestion made by the then Indian PM Late Chandrashekhar but they were killed in a fake encounter.

The panel has sought the comments within four weeks.

The NHRC took the notice only after the Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) filed a complaint on this count.

The complainant sought intervention of the Commission so that the details of 21 suspects, who were victims of extrajudicial killings, could be known and the matter for granting compensation to their families and legal action against the perpetrators could be initiated, reads the media report.

“Before proceeding further, it will be appropriate to obtain the comments of the person concerned. Transmit a copy of the said tweet, enclosed with the complaint to the Chief Secretary, Punjab, as well as to the Secretary to the CM, calling for their comments on it within 4 weeks,” reads a quote from a report published in an English vernacular.

Meanwhile, the DSGMC chief has asked the CM of Punjab to reveal the names of those 21 Sikhs killed along with the policemen responsible for eliminating them extra judicially. If the CM does not disclose the names, action should be taken against him.
