Amrinder Singh, Arun Jaitley get notices for ‘under-stating’ poll expenses

Amritsar, Punjab (May 04, 2014): According to media reports [t]he District Electoral Officer (DEO) has issued notices to Congress’ Lok Sabha candidate from Amritsar Captain Amarinder Singh and his main opponent and Bhartiya Janta Party’s candidate Arun Jaitley for understating their poll expenditure.

The two candidates had submitted the details of their poll expenses to the DEO office after the campaigning came to an end on April 28.

As per the details furnished by Arun Jaitley, his poll expenditure stands at Rs 23.21 lakh while Captian Amarinder claimed his expenditure was Rs 22.80 lakh.

DEO Ravi Bhagat said there was a huge difference in the expenditure shown by them and what was calculated by the poll observer (expenditure).

According to the poll observer, Jaitley’s expenditure was Rs 44.84 lakh while Amarinder spent Rs 28.05 lakh. He said both candidates have been asked to clarify.
