Amritsar/ Punjab (September 09, 2014): It’s third announcement by a film production team to make movie on Bhai Sukhdev Singh Sukha and Bhai Harjinder Singh Jinda.
According to information available with the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN), Punjabi film director Sukhjinder Singh Shera recently (on Aug. 30) held a press conference at Amritsar to make formal announcement regarding his upcoming movie which is said to be based on Letters of Bhai Sukha and Jinda, known as “Jail Chhithian” (Letters from prison).
Sukhjinder Singh Shera was accompanied by family members of Bhai Harjinder Singh Jinda during the press conference.
Bhai Sukhdev Singh Sukha and Bhai Harjinder Singh Jinda were sentenced to death for assassinating former Indian army chief Arun Sridhar Vaidya. Vaidya was the chief of Indian army when Indian state launched army attack on Darbar Sahib (Amritsar) in June 1984.
Duo, commonly called as Bhai Sukha-Jinda, were known for their bravery and daring acts including assassination of Arun Vaidya and Sikh genocide accused Lalit Makan, Arjan Dass besides others.
While talking to Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) over phone, Sukhjinder Singh Shera, said that the shooting of the movie has already begun and the remaining parts shall be completed soon. “We are planning to release the movie in February 2015”, he told Sikh Siyasat News.
Shera said that he has been in Punjabi film industry for last 25 years. He said that new artists have been given chance in this movie.
Bhai Harjinder Singh Jinda’s brother Bhupinder Singh Gadhli said that Sukhjinder Singh Shera had approached the family regarding his plans to make a movie on Bhai Harjinder Singh Jinda and Sukhdev Singh Sukha.
“Their (Bhai Sukha-Jinda’s) actions were daring acts of bravery. What they did was justified as there was no other way to bring the culprits of humanity to justice. The world should know the truth about them”, Bhupinder Singh said.
“The film shall be based on Bhai Sukha-Jinda’s letters. These letters are already available in book form. We are happy that some one has come forward to show the words of martyrs on big screen” he added.
On being told by SSN that two other teams have also declared to make movies on Bhai Sukha-Jinda, Bhupinder Singh expressed ignorance.
“I am not aware about it. No body else has approached or informed us in this regard” he said, while adding that “Anyone is welcome to make a movie on the life of martyrs as long as it is made with intention to show the truth”.
It is notable that Braveheart Production of Canada and the Sadda Haq producer Kuljinder Sidhu have also declared to make movies on Bhai Sukha-Jinda’s life.
It is worth noting that a Punjabi movie “Kaum De Heere” is facing ban in India. Kaum De Heere is based on true story of Bhai Beant Singh and Satwant Singh who had assassinated Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984. It was Indira Gandhi who had ordered army attack on Darbar Sahib in June 1984.
Kaum De Heere, however, was released outside Indian in March 2014.
