Antim Sanskar of Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa Today; Haryana Govt. Orders SDM inquiry into Incident

Kurukshetra: The family members of Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa along with representatives of Sikh bodies yesterday agreed to hold Antim Sanskar of dead body of Bhai Gurbash Singh Khalsa. It was said that the decision was taken after the administration accepted their demand regarding initiating action against police officials whose action had forced Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa to jump off the water tank.

“The cremation will take place at 10am on Sunday at Thaska Ali village and the decision on cremation has been taken as the government has in written accepted our demands which include transfers of Kurukshetra superintendent of police (SP) Abhishek Garg, DSP Dheeraj Kumar, suspension of station house officers (SHOs) of Jhansa and Ismailabad and a fresh FIR under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code against the two,” said Bhai Baljeet Singh Daduwal.

“The decision was taken after repeated meetings with BJP’s Assandh MLA and only Sikh face in the party Bakshish Singh Virk and Kurukshetra deputy commissioner SS Phulia. The DC, on the behalf of the government, handed over a letter ordering a magisterial inquiry by SDM Shahbad into the incident leading to death of Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa”, a report in Hindustan Times reads.

Even as there was no mention of the demands in the letter but Bakshish Singh Virk announced that all the demands have been accepted, including the transfer of the SP and the DSP. Virk also praised members of the Sikh community for holding a peaceful protest and assured his support to Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa’s family.

The copy of letter issued by the District Magistrate, accessed by the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN), had no mention of suspension of any police official. As per the letter, “Dr. S.S. Phulla District Magistrate [has ordered] Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Shahbad to conduct a magistrate inquiry under section 176 Cr. P.C. so as to ascertain the causes including the unknown offenders, if any, which compelled [Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa] to commit suicide after recorded the statements of all concerned and any evidence produced related to the incident”.

He also assured that the youth detained by the police when they were coming to the attend the Friday meeting will be released soon.

Bhai Dhian Singh Mand, Bhai Baljit Singh Daduwal, Bhai Amrik Singh Ajnala and other leader of Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) and United Akali Dal were present at the house of Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa when these announcements were made.

While taking to the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar (Mann) leader Prof. M.P. Singh said that their party is not satisfied with decision as no action is taken against the culprit police officials. He, however, added that they would not oppose the collective decision announced by the family any acting Jathedars.
