Chandigarh, Punjab (May 09, 2013): It is learnt that Sanaullah Ranjay, a Pakistani prisoner who was attacked by jail inmates in a Jail in India, died at Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) Chandigarh.

As per media reports Sanaullah, 52, was attacked by a cashiered Indian soldier serving life term at Jammu’s Kot Bhalwal jail on May 03. He died on May 09, 2013 due to multiple organ failure at 6.56 am, a doctor at PGI reportedly said.

It is further learnt that a Pakistan International Airlines flight took off from Chandigarh in the evening with Sanaullah’s body after India facilitated the hand over.

Sanaullah, who hailed from Sialkot, was arrested in 1996 and charged with involvement in a bomb blast that killed 10 people at Katra near the Hindu shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi in 1994. He was serving life term in the Jammu jail.

Attack on Sanaullah was being viewed as a lash-back of fatal attack on conicted Indian spy Sarabjit Singh by jail inmates in Pakistan. Sarabjit had died few days back in Pakistan and his body was handed over to Indian by Pakistan.

Human Rights organizations, such as Amnesty International have raised concern over these incident. Earlier, after attack on Sarabjit Singh, the Amnesty had urged Pakistan to provide proper security to Indian prisoners in Pakistan.
