Baba Baljit Singh Daduwal, 2 others, arrested by Faridkot police allegedly with “illegal” weapons

Faridkot/ Bathinda, Punjab (August 22, 2014): Just after the byelections were over in Punjab, the Punjab police reportedly arrested Sikh preacher and Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (ad hoc) member Baba Baljit Singh Daduwal. As per information available the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) Baba Daduwal was arrested by Faridkot district police in late evening of August 21.

His arrest has been made in a 2009 case that was registered at Bajakhana. Police has also registered a fresh case against Baba Baljeet Singh Daduwal under Arms Act and two others namely Randhir Singh of Gurdaspur and Harjinder Singh of Bathinda.

The police has claimed to have recovered “illegal” weapons from the the custody of Baba Baljeet Singh Daduwal. The alleged illegal weapons comprise 2 Pistols, 7 Rifles and 300 cartridges.

The police presented arrested persons before duty magistrate and wanted police remand of Baba Baljit Singh Daduwal in Bajakhana case but the court did not accept their plea. The police was able to secure one day remand of Baba Baljit Singh along with two others in fresh case registered under Arms Act.

It is notable that Baljit Singh Daduwal was main person who had led a groups of HSGMC supporter to take over control of Guhla-Cheeka Gurdwara Sahib in Haryana. Punjab’s ruling party Badal Dal was opposing formation of HSGMC and loss of control over a Historic Gurdwara Sahib in Guhla-Cheeka was considered to be major setback for Badal Dal’s move agianst formation of HSGMC.

Even earlier this month the Punjab police tred to arrest Daduwal in Bajakhana case but after getting a tip he was able to avoid his arrest.
