Badal for amendment in Gurdwara Act to kill plans of separate Gurdwara committee for Haryana

New Delhi, India (June 13, 2014) : To beat the plans of Haryana government and certain Haryana Sikh sections regarding formation of separate Gurdwara management committee for Gurdwaras in Haryana state, the Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal has requested Rajnath Singh, Home Minister of India, to amend the Sikh Gurdwara Act.

Badal raised this demand on June 13 during a meeting with Indian Home minister Rajnath Singh.

Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda had announced separate Gurdwara Prabhandak committee for Gurdwaras of Haryana few days ago while Punjab CM had opposed the plans of Haryana government.

There are 11 SGPC seats in Haryana and a group of Haryana Sikhs is active there to form a separate committee. According to this group that has organized itself under the banner of AdHoc Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee that SGPC members from Haryana rarely get any honourable post/s in SGPC and further that all the cash from these Gurdwaras is taken to Punjab and local spendings are very low.

After meeting Rajanath Singh, Parkash Singh Badal reportedly told media persons in New Delhi that Rajanath Singh has assuered him of amending the act.
