Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab (July 16, 2014): Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar president Simranjit Singh Mann voiced support for the formation of a separate Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee in Haryana, on Tuesday (July 17).
Simranjit Singh Mann said the chief minister of Punjab and patriarch of the SAD Parkash Singh Badal should give recognition to the separate SGPC in Haryana as Badal was himself responsible for its formation, in a statement to the media.
He said that if Badal was responsible for ensuring the independent status enjoyed by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, then he should also give recognition to a separate committee in Haryana to look after the affairs of the Sikh shrines in the state without any interference.
Saying that no Sikh, whether he was in Punjab or Haryana, was responsible for the formation of the separate Gurdwara committee, Mann alleged that Badal had looted the “Guru ki Golak” to promote his own interests. Mann alleged that Badal was trying to shed “crocodile tears” over the issue besides trying to create tension among the Sikhs.
