Journalist Kanwar Sandhu thrashed by Balwant Singh Rajoana in Patiala Jail

Patiala: Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana who is facing death sentence and is confined in Central Jail Patiala reportedly thrashed senior journalist Kanwar Sandhu today during their meeting in Patiala jail. As per information former police officer Gurmeet Pinky was also present during the meeting.
Kanwar Sandhu had reportedly gone to the Patiala jail to interview Balwant Singh Rajoana who turned angry over some issue and thrashed the journalist.
As per news reported on a Punjabi vernacular’s website Assistance Jail superintendent Jagmel Singh who had arranged the meeting was suspended after the incident. Sikh Siyasat tried to reach out Kanwar Sandhu to get details of the incident but the went unattended. More details were awaited at the time of writing this news.

Meanwhile, Kamaldeep Kaur, sister of Balwant Singh Rajoana today released a handwritten letter of Balwant Singh Rajoana along with a release note in which he said that Balwant Singh Rajoana had some objections to Kanwar Sandhu’s interview with Gurmeet Pinky as he was not approached to offer clarifications about Gurmeet Pinky’s allegations against him.
It is notable that Kanwar Sandhu, who runs Free Media Initiative (FMI), had interviewed former cop Gurmeet Pinky. In this interview Gurmeet Pinky had revealed a series of fake encounters by the Punjab police during 1980s-90s.
Kanwar Sandhu’s interview with Gurmeet Pinky had received massive appreciation from the Sikh an human rights circles as it was being viewed as a massive disclosure of the widespread and systematic human rights abuses in Punjab during 1980s-90s.
Gurmeet Pinky had also revealed that Balwant Singh Rajaona has leaked the information related to an escape plan of Jagtar Singh Hawara and others to the police. Pinky had claimed that Balwant Singh Rajoana had called him in the Burail jail and told him that Jagtar Singh Hawara and other persons involved in CM Beant Singh assassination case were planning to escape from the jail who had allegedly arrange RDX explosive in the Burail jail. He said that on the basis of information provided by Balwant Singh Rajoana, the explosives were recovered by the police and the escape plan of Jagtar Singh Hawara and others was foiled.
