Vancouver, BC (December 22, 2013): It is learnt that the Sikh community of British Columbia will be hosting a rally in support of Bhai Gurbaksh Singh at the Vancouver Art Gallery in Downtown Vancouver on Sunday December 22, 2013 at 2 PM.
According to information sent to the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) by the organizers of the rally the “Presidents of 8 Gurdwara Societies, representing over 1,50,000 Sikhs of Vancouver, will be fasting from 8 am to 8 pm on Sunday. Hunger Strike will continue daily for one week by Sikh leaders.
It may be recalled that Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa is on continues hunger strike since 14 November, 2013 at Gurdwara Amb Sahib, Mohali. He is seeking permanent release of 6 Sikh political prisoners who are kept in Indian jails beyond the terms of their sentences. These include Bhai Gurmeet Singh, Bhai Shamsher Singh and Lakhwinder Singh (in Jail since 1995), Bhai Lal Singh (arrested in 1992), Bhai Wariam Singh (arrested in 1990) and Bhai Gurdeep Singh Khaira (arrested in 1990).
The hunger strike has triggered a movement in global Sikh circles for the cause of Sikh political prisoners.
