Kurkshetra, Haryana (December 31, 2013): It is learnt that Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa who observed continuous hunger strike for 45 days seeking release of Sikh political prisoners was hospitalized due to severe stomach pain. As per certain media reports Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa was hospitalized yesterday at Dr. Jagdeesh Hospital, Shahbad Markanda (Haryana) as he was suffering from severe pain in stomach and was not able to digest his meals.
Jujhar Singh, son of Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa, reportedly told certain media persons that his father remains out of danger but he may have to remain in hospital for some time.
“Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa has been admitted to a Hospital in Shahbad (Haryana) due to problem in digestive system. […] His condition is stable and doctors have said He will be better in next 24 hours”, sources have updated on the condition of Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa.
It is notable that Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa had started indefinite hunger strike on Novemebr 14, 2013 at Gurdwara Amb Sahib (Mohali) seeking release of some Sikh prisoners languishing in Indian jails despite over-serving the terms of their sentences. He ended his fast on the late evening of December 27, 2013 after 4 such prisoners were granted paroles. He had returned to his native place in Haryana on December 28.
Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa has declared that he shall continue his efforts to secure permanent release of prisoners who have completed the minimum mandatory terms of their sentences.
