Ludhiana (December 5, 2009): Many media reports have revealed that migrated labour yesterday went on rampage at Ludhiana and burnt almost 16 vehicles including, buses and army truck. They were angry on alleged loot of Bhiari in the night by some unidentified person.
Some media report say that there were almost five to six thousand Biharis who even attempted to burn Sachkhand Express at Dhandari Kalan railway station but due to interference of local villagers they were prevented from doing so. About 80 people including some police personnel were reported to have been injured in this clash.
The mob used to stop the vechicles, loot the passengers and after that light the vehicles. The mob also used petrol bombs as per report of a prominent Punjabi Daily News Paper. For almost six hours police remained helpless and now DGP of Punjab Police has given a statement that police should not be blamed for its’ inaction and Punjab has urged the Centeral Government to send its’ forces to Ludhiana. Curfew has been clamped in five areas affected by yesterday’s violence.
It is notable that a large number of migrating labour especially from UP and Bihar come to Punjab and it is often alleged Sikh leaders of Punjab that by providing permanent residence and other facilities to such labour in Punjab, Punjab government at the instance of Indian state is perusing a policy of changing demography of Punjab.
