Srinagar, Kashmir: A soldier of Border Security Force (BSF) posted outside the residence of Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah reportedly opened unprovoked fire on Monday (Nov. 17) morning causing panic in the city of Srinagar.
Soon after the incident the ‘jawan’ was overpowered and taken in police custody. Reports say that no one was injured in the incident as the ‘jawan’ was posted at the rear of the residence.
Residents at Gupkar road where CM Omar Abdullah lives said they were woken up by the gunshots. “It was not a single shot. We heard firing and though it was an ‘attack’.
The chief minister’ special security team immediately overpowered the jawan and handed him over to police.
Meanwhile chief minister Omar Abdullah tweeted he is safe and that he has “full faith in his security”.
“Not withstanding today’s incident with the BSF jawan stationed at my residence in Srinagar today I have full confidence in my security team,” Abdullah wrote on micro-blogging site Twitter.
Police did not comment on the issue further, but sources said the security personnel who opened fire seemed mentally “stressed”.
