Canadian Sikhs to Gather at Parliament Hill on June 2 to Remember Ghallughara June 1984

Ottawa: Sikhs from across the Canada will gather on Parliament Hill this Saturday to mark a special Remembrance Day in the memory of those who laid their lives defending the Darbar Sahib during June 1984 attack by Indian Army and also those innocent Sikh pilgrims who were killed in cold blood by Indian forces. Indian Army’s June 1984 attack on Darbar Sahib in Amritsar and other Gurdwara Sahibs in Punjab and adjoining states is considered as the third Ghallughara of the Sikh history.

“The Sikhs will never forget those who were systematically killed by Indian soldiers and organized mobs,” said Sukhminder Singh Hansra president of Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar Canada East (SADA Canada). “We’ll always cry loud for the brave ones who laid their lives defending the Darbar Sahib and those innocents were brutally murdered”, said he while adding that the Indian government has miserably failed to provide justice and there was no point in asking for it now. He said that the only option left for Sikhs is the “Right To Self Determination”.

“We welcome all Canadians to join us who have a deep appreciation for the need to protect human rights.” said Bhagat Singh Brar executive member of Ontario Gurdwaras Committee and Avtar Singh Punia, ex president of the Ontario Khalsa Darbar.

The Ottawa Sikh Society is hosting the event on Parliament Hill at 1 p.m.
