New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India (SCI) had recently asked a trial court in Chandigarh to depute a court officer to collect record of CM Beant Singh assassination case from the registry of the SCI. The order was part of directions issued by the SCI to direct the trial court to resume trial of Beant assassination case against Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara.

Following the receipt of the communiqué from the SCI, the court of Additional Sessions Judge JS Sidhu has deputed a representative to collect the record in the case from the SC so that the trial can begin in the case.

In an order passed yesterday, the court of Additional Sessions Judge stated, “A letter received from the Supreme Court of India along with a letter dated November 10, 2015, vide which the request of this court for calling the record has been allowed, it is mentioned in the letter that a representative may be deputed to collect the record. In view of the directions, the representative is being deputed separately.”

The case is now listed for hearing on January 6 at a camp court at Burail jail as Tara is not allowed to move out of the Burail jail.
