Mumbai, India (February 17, 2013): It is learnt that Bollywood actor John Abraham starter ‘I Me Aur Main’ was all set to include a party number featuring Punjabi rapper Honey Singh. However, it has emerged that he was dropped from the film and song due to the controversies he has recently been involved in.
A source reportedly revealed to Hindustan Times (HT), “It was supposed to be a party number, but the producers decided to scrap it at the last minute because of the controversies Honey has been embroiled in”.
It seems Honey Singh was ousted from the project following the controversial lyrics to one of this songs. The source continued, “This film is John’s ode to women. It deals with all the women in his life. As the protagonist, through the movie, he understands the importance of respecting all of them. So naturally, a song with crass lyrics about women would just ruin the perception of the film”.
As per information Director Kapil Sharma confirmed the news and also said that a club song was wanted but they decided not to work with Honey Singh.
It is notable that Istri Jagriti Manch (IJM) and some other social groups in Punjab have been raising their voice against vulgar songs and indecent representation of women in videos by Punjabi singers. IJM had organization many demonstrations against Diljit Dosanjh and other. Last month IJM had demanded arrest of some Punjabi singers including rapper Honey Singh, Jazzy B and Diljit Dosanjh under Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986.
The social groups have been accusing these singers for spreading cultural pollution.
The decision by the producers of “I Me Aur Main” may be viewed as impact factor of activism of these social groups.
It is notable that a Criminal case was registered against Honey Singh on December 31, 2012 for offensive lyrics in some of his songs. An FIR in this regard was lodged by Gomti Nagar (Lucknow) police on the complaint of IPS officer Amitabh Thakur.
In his complaint, Thakur alleged that the songs were “extremely vulgar, lewd and indecent and act as an offensive catalyst for crime against women”.
