Dal Khalsa raises issues pertaining to Sikh rights with Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif

Amritsar, Punjab (May 26, 2014): As the Pakistan Prime Minister Janab Nawaz Sharif is scheduled to meet the newly elected Indian Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi on May 27 for bilateral talks, the Dal Khalsa wants both the regional leaders to discuss a free walkway corridor from Dera Baba Nanak to Kartarpur Sahib besides opening of Wagha border on the Indo-Nepal pattern and setting up of Pak consulate at Amritsar .

In a personal welcome note to the visiting Pakistan Prime Minister, Dal Khalsa’s senior leader Satnam Singh Paonta Sahib has raised issues pertaining to Sikh rights. He said people of Amritsar and the Sikh Nation awaits Janab Nawaz and hopes that he could find time now or next time to visit his home town Amritsar.

While the Pakistan nation is going through a tough tumble, party spokesperson acknowledges the support of the Pak government to all Sikhism related activities in Pakistan.

The upkeep of Nankana Sahib and other shrines and the formation of the Pakistan Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan by Nawaz Sharif in April 1999 are a remarkable feat and a true example of Sikh-Muslim affinity. Dal Khalsa leader affirms that for these two major initiatives, Nawaz Sharif will continue to be known as a kind friend of the Sikh community.

“As we are to observe thirty years of Saka Darbar Sahib early next month, we acknowledges the moral support to the Sikhs by the Muslim community especially Muslim League in Pak when Darbar Sahib was bombarded by the Indian army in June 1984”.

He further said the demand for corridor from Dera Baba Nanak to Kartarpur Sahib about 4 kms into Pakistan was first raised in 1998 to enable Sikh pilgrims to have freedom to visit Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib without visa or passport. Sikh devotees led by Akali stalwart Kuldip Singh Wadala have been praying every month at the border facing towards Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan for the last several years.

We believe that the Pakistan government is open to the idea, whereas India is dillydallying for the last nearly two decades despite pleas and protests.

He urge both the leaders to take up this long pending demand of the Sikhs and also opening of Wagha border on the Indo-Nepal pattern and setting up of Pak consulate at Amritsar for discussion during their talks.
