Hoshiarpur, Punjab (July 06, 2013): Dal Khalsa head H. S. Dhami on Saturday demanded that the Punjab government should make public a report on narcotic smuggling in Punjab submitted by a former DGP (prisons) Shashi Kant.

Bhai Dhami was speaking at a public rally organized by its youth wing “Sikh Youth of Punjab” to create awareness amongst present generation against drug menace, apostasy, criminalization of politics, vulgarity in songs and sexual violence against women.. Blaming the central government for failing to check cross-border drug smuggling, he stressed that rise in drug menace is destroying the energy, spirit and future of the state’s youth.
“The state government too has a responsibility and a step in this direction can be made by making public Kant’s report, in which he is believed to have pinpointed the politicians and police officials involved in smuggling of narcotics as well as in moving the drugs within the state and to other states,” he added.
He opined that in case the Akali govt fails to make the report public for whatever reasons, Kant should come forward and reveal the names of those who are part of the larger design against Punjab youth.
Carrying Kesri flags and placards with messages written on it, a large number of youth undertook march aimed to awaken the people against these social evils and urged the society at large to wake up to the occasion. The march started from Hariana and culminated at Tanda via Dasuya.
We believe at one level, it was a part of the design to engage the Punjabi youth in drugs as a weapon to check their political consciousness and to counter the fighting spirit in them,” said Ranbir Singh, head of the group that organized the show. He declared that their group has resolved to hold a series of public programmes on these very issues at various district and tehsil level.
Group’s vice-president Paramjit Singh Tanda said the society must learn to respect and protect women’s dignity, modesty and freedom.
