Hoshiarpur: The Dal Khalsa has decided to present a memo to Jathedar of the Akal Takht on Jan 1 urging him to implement the original Nanakshahi calendar and reject the demand of Sant Samaj and Nanaksar Samparda for reverting to Bikrami.

Notably, the meet of the Sikh high priests to discuss the calendar row is scheduled for Jan 2 at Akal Takht.

Announcing the programme, party spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh said their party’s youth wing the Sikh Youth of Punjab (SYP) would hold peaceful sit-in and march on Jan 1 at Amritsar to demonstrate against Article 25 b 2 of the Indian Constitution that dubs Sikhs as Hindus, government’s failure to curb drug abuse, release of upcoming film of controversial head of heretical cult, and government’s indifferent and biased attitude towards Sikh political prisoners who have been kept under detention unjustly.

He said on the first day of new- year, their youth activists would march from Bhandari bridge upto Darbar Sahib with placards and banners to create awareness amongst masses and spread the message. He said an Ardas in memory of ex-Jathedar of Akal Takht Bhai Gurdev Singh Kaonke would be performed at Darbar Sahib on his 21st martyrdom day. Jathedar Kaonke was abducted and subsequently eliminated by Jagroan police in a staged encounter in 1993.

He said the aim was to press the concerned authorities to release the detainees who had completed their jail term, to constitute judicial commission to probe political-smuggler-police nexus patronizing drug racket, ban the upcoming film of Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh and to correct the constitutional injustice by amending the article 25.

Agreeing with BJP leader’s view that present day Punjab government was doing Nautanki on drug menace, Kanwar Pal Singh said BJP’s Nautanki would start from Jan 12 when their head Amit Shah would launch so-called anti-drug drive from Amritsar. He said all political parties in Punjab were chips of the same block vis-a-vis drug menace. He said no one has clean hands.
