Damage of public property in 2010 – 14 Dera Sirsa followers acquitted

Moga, Punjab (March 30, 2014): As per information 14 followers of Dera Sauda Sirsa have been acquitted by a local court in a case of causing damage to public property in 2010.

As per a news reported by Business Standard (BS): “Sect followers had gone on a rampage, setting ablaze trains and buses and vandalizing public property after a murder case was registered against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in a murder case”.

According to information available with the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) one of the accused Dera followers died had during the trial, while the remaining 14 were acquitted by the court of District & Sessions Judge G S Bakshi on March 28.

The judge observed that the prosecution failed to establish its case against the accused.

Notably, the police had booked 15 followers of the sect for causing damage to public property on February 27, 2010.
