Decision on June 6 clashes after SGPC’s report: Jathedar; Families of arrested youths led by AAP leader HS Phoolka approach Akal Takhat

Amritsar, Punjab (June 15, 2014): The Akal Takhat Jathedar Gurbachan Singh has stated that the decision on the issue of clashes of June 6 would be taken by the five Jathedars of various Takhats after receiving report of a committee formed Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) chief Avtar Singh Makkar.

According to the information available with the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN), Jathedars of five Takhats of Sikhism was held at Shri Akal Takhat on June 15, 2014 and its was expected that the Jathedars would decide on the issue of clashes of June 6, 2014. On June 6, the task force of SGPC had indulged in clash with supporters of Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar and 12 people were injured. The incident had reportedly brought “Disgrace” for Sikhism.

“We are waiting for the report of committee formed by SGPC and decision would be taken after reading the report”, told Gurbhachan Singh to the media persons after holding the meeting.

Meanwhile, family members of youths, who were arrested by the police on June 6, 2014 while they were getting the shops shut in the city in favour of Bandh call given by Sikh body Dal Khalsa. Led by Aam Admi Party leader HS Phoolka, family members of the youth asked Jathedar to intervene in the matter as those youth were not involved in the clash.

Jathedar reportedly assured the families that he would take up the matter with the authorities.
