New Delhi, India: Delhi police has released three Sikh activists, who were detained today after they had started hunger strike at Jantar mantar seeking release of Sikh political prisoners. It is notable that after Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa’s family volunteered for his hospitalization in Ambala on January 09, the Haryana police and management committee of Gurdwara Lakhnaur Sahib asked Gurbkash Singh Khalsa’s associates to leave premises.
Gurpreet Singh Guri, Gurpiar Singh and others had shifted the base of their hunger strike to Jantar Mantar in Delhi on Jan. 12 morning. They were were detained by Delhi police in the evening, but were released after short detention.
“Delhi police told us that it could not grant us permission to hold hunger strike at Jantar Mantar as a high alert is issued in Delhi in wake of US president Barack Obama’s visit to Delhi on January 26” said Gurpreet Singh Guri.
“We asked the police that when many others are holding their protests at Jantar Mantar, why Delhi police was discriminating against Sikhs. The police said it will also ask other protesters to vacate area surrounding Jantar Mantar in coming days” Guri told SSN over phone.
He said they are looking for appropriate venue to continue their hunger strike. Police told us that it would not allow us to hold hunger strike at any place in New Delhi.
