Ludhiana (December 6, 2009): The Sant Samaj led by Baba Harnam Singh (Dhuma), Baba Baljeet Singh Daduwal, Baba Ranjeet Singh Dhadraian, Baba Sukhchain Singh Dharampura and Baba Buta Singh was holding a dharna at Samrala chowk (Ludhiana) after yesterday’s incident that claimed life of a Sikh, Darshan Singh lohara but today this dharna is lifted under somewhat suspicious circumstances.
Today the dead body of Bhai Darshan Singh was handed over to his family members and after lifting the dharna leaders of various Sikh organizations and Sant Samaj participated in his last rites.
The act of lifting the dharna is looked at as an act done under huge pressure from administration and the government, as the Sant Samaj failed to chalk out any future course of action. As per sources, a meeting shall be convened on 12 December and future course of action shall be declared on 14 December at the Bhog ceremony of Bhai Darshan Singh.
As per some unconfirmed reports it is believed that more than one person might have died in yesterday’s incident. Some eyewitness, who himself was beaten up severely by the police as he was holding one such body in his lap, today informed Sikh leaders during dharna that other bodies were picked by the police. It is notable that yesterday a TV channel in its’ initial reports said that two persons had died, while the number of causalities reported by BBC Hindi, though BBC also said that the official figure is one. But, another notable thing is that no one has yet came forward to claim that any one is missing so currently there is no reason, other than mere doubt, to believe that more than one person has lost his life in yesterday’s incident.
