Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan (DJJS) head Ashutosh died after severe pain in Chest, reports HT

Noormehal, Jalandhar (January 29, 2014): Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan head and controversial self-styled godman Ashutosh, died in the dera of the sect in Noormahal of Jalandhar district on intervening night on 28 and 19 January, 2014.

According to Hindustan Times (HT): [t]he exact cause of death of the Dera head is yet to be confirmed officially by the dera, however, sources said the dera head died after having severe pain in the chest.

As per HT Ashutosh “reportedly died of heart attack”.

Following the news of his death, followers have started moving towards Noormahal.

Ashutosh had been at the horn of controversies in recent past due to his anti-Sikh acitivites. Punjab government led by Captain Amrinder Singh had banned Ashutosh’s activities in Punjab after his activities had led to unrest in the State. The ban was however lifted by Punjab government led by Badal-BJP combine.

Badal Government overlooked the apparent threat to law and order situation when Ashutosh announced to hold a public function at Ludhaina on December 5, 2009. Punjab police used excessive force to repress public protests against Ashutosh’s function. Bhai Darshan Singh Lohara was killed in police firing and several others had sustained injuries in this incident.
