Amritsar, Punjab (November 26, 2012): Human rights activist Dr Binayak Sen was honoured by the SGPC and Sikh groups at Information Centre of the Darbar Sahib, Amritsar on November 25, 2012. Dr. Sen is associated with People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL).
Representatives of Sikh groups hailed Dr Sen for his campaign against the ‘misuse of sedition laws’ by the Indian state.
Dr Sen was in Amritsar to participate in a function jointly organized by Human Rights Law Network, Khalra Mission Organization and Punjab Human Rights Organizaiton.
Head Granthi of Sri Darbar Sahib Gaini Jagtar Singh, Dal Khalsa spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh, Khalsa Action Committee chairman Bhai Mohkam Singh and acting President of Akali Dal Panch Pardhani (ADPP) Bhai Harpal Singh Cheema jointly honoured Dr Binayak Sen. He was given siropa, sets of books and photograph of Darbar Sahib.
Parveena Ahangar, member of Association of Parents of Disappeared Persons, Kashmir was also honoured.
Earlier, they paid obesiance at Darbar Sahib.
It is notable that Dr Sen shot into limelight when Chattisgarh police detained him under sedition law suspecting his involvement with Naxal movement. After remaining under detention for two and half years, he was released on bail on the directions of the Supreme Court.
