Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court here on Monday stayed the non-bailable warrant issued by Fazilka’s trial court against the Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly and senior Punjab Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Sukhpal Singh Khaira.

As reported by the media sources Sukhpal Singh Khaira had approached the High Court after non-bailable warrant was issued against him in a 2015 case of heroin smuggling as an accused by the court of Additional Sessions Judge Fazilka.

Summons were issued after a lawyer had filed an application in the court of Additional Session Judge Sandeep Singh Joshan under section 319.

In his petition, Sukhpal Singh Khaira had reportedly challenged issuing of nob-bailable warrant, saying summoning him in a two-year-old case was politically motivated.

While the High Court has stayed the operation of non-bailable warrant, it has allowed the proceedings of the trial court to continue. The matter is now listed for November 9, 2017, notes The Hindu (TH).
