DSGMC Manjit GK invokes “Indian Nationalism” during Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s Shaheedi Samagam

New Delhi: Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) chief and Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) leader Manjit Singh GK today invoked the Indian nationalism during a Shaheedi Samagam held by DSGMC to mark the martydom day of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. DSGMC observed the Shaheedi day today according to amended Nanakshahi calendar.

GK claimed that the foundation stone of Indian constitution was laid by Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, the nine Sikh Guru. He said the Guru Sahib had attained martyrdom to uphold the right to freedom of religion. He maintained that such was an important part of the Indian constitution.

DSGMC general secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa criticised the Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party government for not announcing holiday on Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s martyrdom day (Dec. 16) as per amended Nanakshahi Calendar.

DSGMC chief’s statement looks absurd in wake of the fact that the Indian constitution denies distinct religious existence of the Sikhs and clubs the Sikh religion with Hinduism.
