New Delhi, India: The Election Commission of India is expected today to announce schedule of upcoming state assembly Elections in Maharashtra and Haryana. The EC will hold a press conference at 4:30 pm and make the announcement.
Media reports say that the poll could take place in Haryana and Maharashtra in mid-October.
The term of the Haryana Assembly expires on October 27 and of the Maharashtra Assembly on November 08.
Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) secured landsliding victory in last Lok Sabha elections. The ruling party of Inida has put all efforts for Assembly elections. The assembly elections will be a a test for the Narendra Modi-led BJP to ascertain if its “magic” still prevails. The BJP was not able to maintian it’s “winning mode” during recently held by-elections for some of the states assemblies.
It is notable that the currently both parties were being ruled by the Congress party, and reports suggest that Congress is struggling with anti-incumbency.
Schedule of elections in Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand will be made public later. The term of the Jammu and Kahsmir and Jharkhand assemblies is scheduled to expire on January 03 and January 19 respectively.
