Chandigarh/ Punjab (April 30, 2014): As per media reports [f]earing his arrest in a “created case” by Punjab politicians, former Punjab DGP (Prisons) and Aam Aadmi Party leader Shashi Kant has moved the Punjab and Haryana high court seeking anticipatory bail in any criminal case to be registered against him in the state.

It may be recalled that press conference in Jalandhar on April 22, Shashi Kant had named cabinet ministers Gulzar Singh Ranike and Ajit Singh Kohar, Khemkaran SAD MLA Virsa Singh Valtoha, Tarn Taran SAD MLA Harmeet Singh Sandhu, senior SAD leader Veer Singh Lopoke, and Jimmy Kalia, a close aide o f BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia. Shashi Kant had said that these politicians were there in the list of people involved in protecting drug peddlers, which was prepared by the Punjab Police’s intelligence wing in 2007 when he was the ADGP intelligence.

The petition will come up for hearing on May 1 before the court headed by justice Tejinder Singh Dhindsa.

As per information Shashi Kant, in his petition, has mentioned that in case the court does not seem it fit to grant him anticipatory bail, a protection may be granted in the form of an advance 15-day notice in writing to him in case he is sought to be arrested in any criminal case.

The petition mentions that even on January 10 an attempt to kidnap the petitioner was made by the Punjab Police officials regarding which a daily diary report was registered in a Chandigarh police station.

Shashi Kant has mentiond that people in power and some others are not happy with his crusade against the drug racket in Punjab. Since his recent revelation about politicians has ruffled their feathers, he, along with his family, was living under constant threat not only to his life and liberty but also in the for m of implication in some “created” case, Kant added.

The petition reads that since the political leaders named by the petitioner at his press conference are powerful people, they can pull the strings at the level of the state executive to harm the petitioner.

The Punjab and Haryana high court had earlier taken a suo motu notice of his application seeking a CBI probe in the drug racket in Punjab.
